Perfect fluffy rice without a rice cooker or anything fancy. Just a pot.
Home cooked rice is a staple in Hispanic cuisine. It's something we both grew up eating in our homes and makes a great side to a variety of dishes. Many people find it hard to cook rice without a rice cooker, but we are here to show you it's not. Plus, it's one less clunky kitchen appliance you need to have.
What Rice to Use?
If you are going to make rice, there are options. While we prefer Jasmine rice, any long grain white rice will work well with this method, you can make adjustments for brown rice by looking at the instructions on their packaging.
Trick to Making Good Stovetop Rice
- If you want a sticky rice - wash it until the water runs clear. This removes the starch and allows the rice to stick.
- Do not open the lid! Let the rice cook on low heat. Do not touch it or lift the lid.
- If you do not want to add oil and garlic, just skip steps 2 - 5.
- Once the rice has been washed, heat up a pot with oil, add garlic then add the rice.
- Cook for 1 -2 minutes, then add the water and salt.
- Bring to a boil and cover for 20 minutes.
