Pumpkin Spice Latte

Enjoy a warm, cozy cup of fall goodness right in your kitchen. Whether you sip it on a crisp morning or while snuggled up on the couch, this vegan pumpkin spice latte is bound to become a seasonal favorite.

When do Pumpkin Spice Lattes Come Back?

Sometime around September pumpkin spice lattes - also known as PSLs - burst onto the scene like a caffeinated jack-in-the-box. As the weather begins to cool PSLs are there to keep you feeling cozy, warm, and up-to date on the seasonal trend in the western hemisphere.

But what's great about this recipe is that you don't have to wait for Starbucks, or your local coffee shop, to release their pumpkin spice lattes, you can now make it in the comfort of your home regardless of what season it it - although I'm not sure if it's a culinary crime to have one in the middle of summer.

Is Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte Vegan?

Unfortunately no, Starbucks uses condensed milk in their pumpkin spice sauce that contains dairy. But that's okay! Starbucks is more of a social club and we honestly don't find that coffee to be anything special. Save yourself the money and make your PSLs in the comfort of your home, with no dairy and less sugar!

Ingredients for a Vegan Pumpkin Spice Latte

  • Espresso
  • Plant-based Milk
  • Homemade Pumpkin Spice Sauce

How to Make Pumpkin Spice Syrup

  • Vegan Condensed Milk: We used a coconut condensed milk which does add a hint coconut flavor, which we personally love, but if you don't enjoy the taste of coconut, here's a condensed oat-milk.
  • Pumpkin Puree: Make sure it's pure pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling, which often gets confused.
  • Pumpkin Spice Mix: can be homemade using this recipe, or store bought.

How to Make a Vegan PSL like Starbucks

Once you have the pumpkin spice syrup prepared, making a pumpkin spice latte is super simple.

  • Brew Coffee: Brew your favorite coffee or espresso.
  • Steam Your Milk: Heat and froth your plant-based milk until it's creamy and bubbly. If you don’t have a frother, simply heat it on the stove or in the microwave, then whisk vigorously or use a french press to froth.
  • Assemble Your Latte: In your favorite coffee mug, combine 1-2 tablespoons of your pumpkin spice sauce with the brewed coffee or espresso. Pour in the steamed milk and gently stir.
  • Top and Serve: If you’re feeling fancy, top your latte with whipped coconut cream and sprinkle a bit of extra pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon on top.

Tips for Customization

  • Sweetness: If you cant find vegan condensed milk, use equal parts sugar and hot water to make a simple syrup.
  • Milk Variety: Experiment with different plant-based milks like almond, soy, or oat.

We hope you enjoy this recipe. Remember, every step you take towards a plant-based lifestyle is something to be proud of.
