Guava and Cheese Cuban Pastry

1 Pizza Cutter or knife
Guava + Cheese Pastry
- 1 package puff pastry vegan friendly
- ½ block guava paste
- ½ cup vegan cream cheese that is nut or tofu base, NOT oil based
Simple Syrup
- 1 part organic white sugar
- 1 part water
Preheat oven to pastry package directions
Cut pastry dough into squares
Fill the center of the dough with cream cheese and a slice of guava
To seal, fold diagonal corners of the dough to make a triangle
Gently press the dough to close
Poke the top with a fork
Make a quick simple syrup with equal parts sugar and hot water
Spread the tops with simple syrup
Bake according to package directions
Once they are golden brown, remove from oven and let them cool on a rack
It's important to use a nut or tofu based cream cheese. Cheeses that are primarily oil based will liquefy and spill out of the pastry.
