A deliciously simple way to have kale and a crunchy salty treat that is good for you.
Kale has been a "super food" for a few years now, it's so popular that it is hard to believe that at one point the largest consumer of kale was Pizza Hut! It was purely decorative back then, but now we put it to a less wasteful use - and it's good for us! You can air fry kale and enjoy a snack high in calcium. In fact, 100 grams of raw kale has more calcium that 100 grams of dairy milk!
Kale is great in a salad but to be honest I hadn't really given kale a chance until I had it as a chip. We had dinner at a Japanese restaurant in Miami where the chef knew we were vegan and he asked if he could try some things out, we were of course very okay with this. He brought out these fried kale chips and we were instantly hooked. The soft crispy texture was so delightful, we had to make some at home.
Why you'll love this air-fried kale chip recipe
Kale chips are light and salty, with a crisp that encourages the next bite until you've eaten all of them! But because it's kale, you don't feel bad, instead you get up and prepare some more.
Ingredients
This recipe is only 4 ingredients but consider it a base for any seasonings you want to try.
- Kale

- Salt
- Nutritional Yeast
How to make kale chips in the air-fryer
- Break Kale into slightly smaller pieces (example in second image below) while being considerate that it will shrink in the cooking process.
- Lightly coat kale with oil and toss with salt and nutritional yeast.
- Air fry at 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 175 Celsius for 6 minutes shaking halfway. Keep in mind not all air-fryers are created equal so make any adjustments on temperature and time as you see fit.
How to serve
- Toss it in a bowl and eat it like popcorn! That's how we enjoy it most often.
